Marketing & Getting Customers

What should a simple lead-magnet sales funnel look like from signup to first offer?

The short answer

Use one promise, one signup form, immediate delivery, two or three helpful follow-ups, and one relevant first offer. Every step should continue the same problem. A lead magnet about meal planning should not suddenly pitch social-media coaching.

A simple six-step path

  1. Invitation: describe the small problem and the useful resource.
  2. Signup: collect only the information needed and explain what emails will follow.
  3. Delivery: provide the resource immediately on-screen and by email.
  4. Use help: show how to get a quick win.
  5. Bridge: explain the next problem the paid offer solves.
  6. Offer: state who it fits, outcome, price, terms, and next step.

Example: A “five-point homepage check” leads to an email showing how to fix the highest-priority issue, then offers a paid homepage audit. The free resource is complete. The paid offer adds diagnosis and implementation.

Write the first emails

  • Email 1, immediately: resource and one starting instruction.
  • Email 2, two days later: common mistake and a worked example.
  • Email 3, two or three days later: paid next step, fit, price, and deadline only if real.
  • Email 4: answer one objection or close the invitation.

Test every link and unsubscribe route. The FTC’s CAN-SPAM guidance explains U.S. requirements for commercial email, including accurate headers, nondeceptive subjects, a postal address, and opt-outs. Consent and privacy duties differ elsewhere, so check all applicable laws.

The FTC’s data-security guide also recommends collecting only personal information you need and protecting access to it.

Measure the steps

Track page visits, form completions, successful deliveries, opens only as a rough signal, link clicks, offer visits, purchases, unsubscribes, and complaints. Make a test signup with a fresh address and complete the whole sequence on mobile.

The Email Marketing System is the most relevant WAHMN resource for building the delivery and follow-up sequence. The offer still needs to be genuinely connected to what the subscriber requested.
