A Welcome from Marge

I’m so glad you’re here. I’ve spent many years starting businesses, growing them, selling some of them, and helping other business owners figure out what was working, what wasn’t, and what to do next. Along the way, people have asked me thousands of questions about starting a business, finding customers, marketing, making money, choosing the right tools, and simply figuring out where to begin.

A lot of WAHMN grew out of those conversations. I started writing down the answers, then creating guides, tools, and courses around the questions people kept asking. Eventually, years of business experience, research, teaching, consulting, creating, and problem-solving all came together here. It has turned into one of my favorite projects because it gives me a way to take what I’ve learned over the years and make it useful to someone who may be sitting at home right now wondering what her next step should be.

I also know what it’s like to build a business while having a very full life. I have three kids, five grandkids, a hubby, and a black Lab who seems to have more energy than everyone else in the house combined. There have always been family responsibilities, interruptions, unexpected problems, and days when the carefully organized plan for the day disappeared before breakfast. So when I talk about building a business from home, I’m not imagining someone with endless hours, unlimited money, and a perfectly quiet office. I’m talking about real life, and that is exactly the kind of life WAHMN was created to fit into.

Maybe you’re here because you know you want to work for yourself but have no idea what kind of business to start. Maybe you already have a business and need more customers, better marketing, or another source of income. You may even have an idea you’ve been thinking about for years and finally want to figure out whether it could really work. Wherever you are starting from, you do not have to have everything figured out before you begin.

WAHMN is organized to meet you where you are and help you figure out what comes next. You’ll find practical guidance, honest information, step-by-step training, business tools, and answers to the specific questions that tend to come up once you actually start doing the work. My goal is not to overwhelm you with everything you could possibly do. It is to help you make better decisions, avoid some expensive mistakes, and keep moving forward.

I also want this to be a place you can trust. There is an enormous amount of noise online about making money and starting businesses, and plenty of promises sound wonderful until you look at the numbers or try to put the advice into practice. I would much rather tell you what is realistic, what something may actually cost, what can go wrong, and what you can do to improve your chances of succeeding. Sometimes the best advice is exciting, and sometimes it is simply the truth you need before spending your time or money.

One of the things that matters to me most is that you should not have to buy something every time you need an answer. A lot of what you’ll find at WAHMN is completely free. You can explore the articles, use the business tools, look through the resources, and search for exactly what you need using the search bar at the top of the site. When you decide you want more help, our courses and business systems are there to take you deeper and walk you through the process step by step.

And if you’re looking for something and can’t find it, email me. If we already have it, I’ll help you find it. If we don’t, your question may turn into the next article, tool, or resource I create, because many of the best things on this site have started with someone simply asking, “How do I do this?”

Most of all, please don’t look at everything on this site and feel as though you need to do all of it at once. You don’t. Choose the thing that will move you one step forward and start there. Businesses are usually built through a long series of small decisions: one idea, one offer, one customer, one page, one improvement at a time. That is how most of mine started too, and I hope WAHMN helps make building yours a little easier.
