How do I turn a discovery call into a clear yes, no, or next step without pressuring the prospect?
The short answer
End by summarizing the fit, making one recommendation, naming the complete price, and asking what the prospect would like to do. Clarity is not pressure. Pressure begins when you refuse to accept her answer.
Earn the recommendation first
Before discussing the package, confirm three things aloud: the result she wants, the main obstacle she described, and the kind of support she believes would help. Ask, “Did I get that right?”
Then say one of three things:
- “I think this package fits because…”.
- “I don’t think coaching with me is the right next step because…”.
- “I need to confirm one detail before I can recommend responsibly.”.
For a fit, explain scope, schedule, total price, payment options, and earliest start. Avoid dumping every offer you sell onto the table.
Ask a clean decision question
“Would you like to begin?” is enough. If she says yes, explain the agreement, payment, and scheduling sequence. If she says no, thank her. If she needs time, ask what information is missing and agree on a decision date she chooses.
Do not add a countdown unless a real capacity or cohort date exists. Do not suddenly cut the price after she hesitates. The FTC’s advertising guidance centers on truthful, non-misleading claims, a sound standard for offers and urgency too (FTC advertising guidance).
Send a useful recap
The follow-up can be five lines: what she wants, the recommended package, price and terms, the decision date, and a link to the written agreement. Keep confidential details out of an unsecured email.
ICF describes the coaching relationship as one formed under an agreement that defines responsibilities and expectations (ICF Code of Ethics). A calm enrollment process begins that relationship in the same spirit you want to continue it.
Review your calls monthly. If many suitable prospects remain confused, improve the offer. If poor-fit people keep booking, improve the page and application rather than becoming more forceful on calls.
