What should a social media manager include and exclude from a client package?

The short answer

Include specific platforms, deliverables, workflow, reporting, and response boundaries. Exclude anything the price and process do not support. “Social media management” is too vague to protect either person.

Define the recurring work

A starter package might include one platform, a monthly planning call, 12 feed posts, captions, client-supplied photos, scheduling, basic comment monitoring during business hours, and a monthly report. State whether short-form video, filming, design, stories, community replies, influencer outreach, paid ads, and weekend monitoring are included.

For every deliverable, define quantity, format, platform, approval deadline, revision limit, and who supplies raw material. Explain what happens when the client is late. Silence should not automatically count as approval for sensitive or regulated content.

Draw operational boundaries

Exclude customer-service promises, crisis response, legal review, copyright clearance, ad spend, prize fulfillment, account recovery, and guaranteed growth unless you explicitly price and staff them. You can coordinate with the client’s qualified experts without pretending to be one.

Use delegated account permissions, not shared passwords. Meta Business Suite allows businesses to add people and assign specific assets (Meta asset-access guidance).

Price the hidden work

Count research, planning, writing, design, editing, approvals, scheduling, community checks, reporting, meetings, and administration. If 12 posts require 15 hours and your sustainable internal rate is $50, the labor alone is $750 before tools and profit.

Attach a change menu or hourly rate for extras. When a client asks for “one quick reel,” you can respond with a price and schedule instead of resentment.

Finally, state that platform reach and sales cannot be guaranteed. The package buys defined professional work and decisions, not ownership of an algorithm.
