How do I verify a Google Business Profile, and what should I do if verification gets stuck?

The short answer

Claim the correct profile, make its real-world details accurate, and use the verification method Google offers on that profile. You can't choose every method. If verification stalls, preserve your evidence, avoid making needless changes or repeated submissions, and follow the exact issue notice before contacting support.

Prepare before you press the button

Make the business name, category, address or service area, phone, and website match how the business actually operates. Search Maps first so you don't accidentally verify a duplicate.

Collect proof you may need: permanent signage for a storefront, access to the premises, work tools or inventory, a branded vehicle if you use one, and business documents whose name and address match the profile. Hide private numbers before sharing documents unless Google specifically requires them.

Google's verification guide explains that the methods offered are determined automatically and can include video, phone or text, email, live video, or mail. Complete the method shown in your profile rather than following an old tutorial built around a different option.

If Google asks for a video

Plan the route before recording. Google's video-recording instructions call for evidence of the location, proof that the business exists, and proof that you manage it. For a service-area business, that might mean a nearby street sign, your work equipment, and access to a business-only vehicle or documents.

Keep the evidence truthful and coherent. A pile of unrelated clips or stock images won't show that one real operator controls one real business.

If the process seems stuck

Use the notice as your next step:

  • Still under review: Google's guide says review can take up to five business days. Wait through that window before treating it as a failure.
  • Get verified appears again: The first attempt did not fully verify the profile. Reverify using an available method.
  • Review issues: Open the notice and address the missing proof before recording another video.
  • Postcard not received: Confirm the mailing details. Google's current instructions warn that changing the name, address, or category, or requesting a new code, can invalidate the code already sent.
  • Someone else owns the profile: Request ownership instead of building a duplicate.
  • Suspended or disabled: Correct policy problems and follow Google's suspension and appeal instructions. Don't create a replacement profile to dodge the restriction.

Save screenshots of the status, profile ID, dates, and any case number. If the stated review window passes and no offered fix works, contact support from the account that manages the profile. A short timeline with matching evidence is much easier to review than five separate tickets.
